Have been trying to get accustomed to the “normal” sleeping patterns here but still not having much luck at all. Hopefully when I start work on Monday that might get my arse into gear. Met today with some of the staff and Management here and they all seem to be really nice. Found out also that there is another girl coming over from Sydney in June who will be working/ living at the same Hotel as me so will be good to have another Aussie over here to hang out with and we can even go suss out some of the other touristy things and clubs. We’ve been emailing and she seems nice enough. Start work Monday morning at 6am..
So not the morning person but will have to get used to that shift for a bit and all the others too that come with bein in Hospitality. I do have the weekend off though so thats good. Plus working on Friday night in the bar till 2am. Even then it’s not really that late and be good to finally get into it again.
Went sight seeing today and headed to the thing that Burlington is know for, their Mall. It’s not that far from where I live and the guy driving the Hotel shuttle bus had lived in Australia with his family and kids for a few years and they’ve invited me over to dinner, along with some of the other staff. So I’ll be getting alot of home cooked meals and also an opportunity to experience some of the culture also.
The Mall was huge.. Had about 5oo shops in there and everything is sooooo cheap to purchase ( just dont think about how shit the conversion of currency is in regards to the AU dollar). I spent about 6 hours there today wandering around and having a look at all of the shops. There are some the same as we had in Australia and as soon as I talked the shop assistants bailed me up for ages. Only bought one or two necessity items but wow.. you could sure go crazy in there shopping. Tess you would have a ball!!
When I got back to the Hotel tonight too there was a high school prom being held there in the ballroom. Got to see all these kids rocking up and my god to they go all out ( or more so probably their parents credit cards). I had never ( well except on MTV’s Super Sweet 16) seen so many kids cashed and dressed up at that age and all these stretch limo hummers.. Gangsta styles.. Was funny too look at and made me realise that I am over here and seeing stuff I had only seen previously on tv.
For anyone thats worried about my bro and for the emails that I’ve gotten thanks for getting in contact with me and for your concern. I appreciate it, while there was a bit of a communication barrier here with me not being able to contact anyone back in SA I did manage to get a hold of dad and he put all the crazy panicking thoughts going through my head to rest. Thanks too grig for helping me out. I’ll have a new cell phone here on Monday so when I get the number though will give it out and have ensured that I’ve set it up for International calling though. One thing that sucks though is that if people call me from International or sms I get slogged a bit on my bill.. something like 15 cents per sms.. but i need one and am getting the pretty pink Motorola Razer..
Well all is good here, starting to settle in and chatting to a few of the staff that are pretty cool. Meant to be meeting up with Ryan tomorrow (who’s originally from SA, who’s been living/ working over here for a few years now) to get the local tour and low down on Boston. So that should be exciting. Not gonna have to big of a weekend though.. Work monday morning at 6am.. I wanna get some sleeping routine by then..
I have to start taking my camera out with me too when I go places!! When I’ve got some pics taken grig will start me up the photo gallery and then you can see whats going on.
One thing quickly I have to mention so far about the food here is not only are the servings huge ( value for money if your hungry) I dont eat anywhere near 1/2 whats on my plate, but alot of the stuff isnt agreeing with me. Not sure why if its the change of ingredients or what but alot of it has made me feel really sick ( and I’ve been eating healthily).. odd..
Weather heres been cold too (though the locals consider it “warming up”) still 10 degrees during the day and gets cold as and down to -2 -4 degrees at nights.. too cold for thongs :(
Anywho.. Take care, speak soon and miss you all heaps
